Golem sees the art of live performance and animation combine to produce 90 minutes of pure entertainment, with the clear cut message that mass technological advancement is inevitably going to create a society of clones. 'Say yes to progress' and 'move with the times or you'll be left behind' are the two phrases that resonate throughout this piece, propelling us into believing that advancing technology could result in the human race being controlled solely by machines.

The use of animation and projection in Golem is quite outstanding. The high definition images accompany the five onstage actors to create a piece rich with different settings and, most essentially, bring the other main characters of Golem (1, 2 and 3) to life.

The skill of the actors to remain completely in sync with the action on the screen behind them, is highly impressive. Their capability to match the fast-moving images with slick movements, vivid facial expressions and body language, meant that both the actors and animations worked synonymously. The continuous jazzy live music and lyrics also carried the piece and prevented the play from lulling at any point.

Golem is an incredibly forward thinking, fascinating piece of theatre. Not only is the way in which the tale communicated to the audience fresh and unconventional, but the deeper message within the piece leaves great food for thought - 'do you want to be a nobody or an everybody?'
